XIII - Death...
The Scorpion
Description of the Illustration:The Grim Reaper cuts a long silver cord with his scythe, separating the body of a dead woman who lies on the ground from her spirit that rises above her. Next to the woman's dead body are all the bills, money, and material possessions that she can't take with her, as well as the scorpion that stung and killed her. The woman's spirit grasps a snake that is shedding its skin as she focuses upon a brilliant star-like light above her. An eagle accompanies her spirit as she journeys towards the light. Within the light the planets Mars and Pluto beckon for her to join them. The upper left sphere is blue (Chesed) while the lower right sphere is red (Geburah).

Transformation
Death greets the Fool, bearing his horrifying gifts of change, ending, and transformation. Death eliminates the Fool’s apparencies of Ego, Attachment, Fear, and Refusal.
The Fool faces his own avidyā and befriends the ghoulish spectre, comprehending that Death (and Change) is not a permanent state—it is simply the fabric of the equation upon which the universe is founded: Creation, Preservation, and Destruction.
Thus Death, the Great Transformer, teaches the Fool the valuable lesson of Transition.
