Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Futility

Astrological Association: Moon in Aquarius

Description of the Illustration: Persephone sits at Hades’ table in the Underworld. The table is resplendently decorated for a Samhein celebration, and the shades of dead people serve their food. Hades gloats as the unknowing Persephone takes a bite of the pomegranate, therefore sealing her fate to be his wife in the Underworld for six months out of every year. Persephone’s chair is made of seven swords, and her crown is made of crescent moons; the centerpiece of the table is the ghost of the mermaid from the Star card (the water-bearer), only this time salty tears drip from her two cups onto the table. A green sphere (Netzach) peeks over the bottom center edge of the card.
