Description of the Illustration: Dionysus holds up his fennel and ivy wand in one hand and the pile of Semele’s ashes in the other as he confronts Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, upon his dark throne. Hades holds the planet Mars in one hand and a wand in the other, while four fearsome guards on either side of his throne wield their wands like spears; Hades’ queen, Persephone, raises her wand in supplication, imploring her stern husband to return Dionysus’ mortal mother to him. A proud lion stands next to Dionysus, lending his support. A green sphere (Netzach) peeks over the bottom center edge of the card.
