XVIII - The Moon...
The Fish
Description of the Illustration:We are looking straight down into a gazing pool in a Japanese garden. Two Koi fish, bound together like two crescent moons as they swim counter-clockwise, form a never-ending circle on the pool's surface; one fish has two planet Neptunes for eyes, and the other's eyes are two planet Jupiters. As we gaze into the nadir of the pool, we find that it is impossible to see its bottom. In the murky depths of the pool we glimpse distorted images of a sleeping man in the middle of a nightmare, an old woman gazing into a moon-like crystal ball, a man who is tied up and gagged, and a woman being burned at the stake. Hatching from a ball of dung in the center of the pool is a dazzling scarab beetle. The upper left sphere is blue (Chesed) while the lower right sphere is yellow (Tiphereth).

The Subconscious
The Moon immerses the Fool in the shadowy realm of his own subconscious—his illusions, emotions, fantasies, and nightmares. It is time for his True Self to confront and finally see All That Is.
Bubbling up from ages past come the Fool’s forgotten and repressed actions that have bound him to physicality. He must voyage through his own prejudices, harmful acts, superstitions, and insanities; he must be buried in the bowels of the Earth in order to resurrect and conquer the Underworld once and for all.
