XVII - The Star...
The Water Bearer
Description of the Illustration:A fantastical mermaid hold two water pitchers, one black and one gray; there are rolling hills in the distance. The black pitcher is decorated with the planet Saturn; she pours this pitcher into the ocean waves that she inhabits. The gray pitcher is emblazoned with the planet Uranus, and seems to pour straight upwards, becoming the twinkling stars in the heavens above her. The streams pouring from both pitchers look like two trees, the downward growing represents the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil while the upward growing represents the Tree of Life. As we look closer, we see that the foam on the crests of the waves are in fact the huge masses of humanity, and the stream that she pours into the ocean has two tiny friends entering the world of duality together. We also see that each of the stars formed by her upward moving stream is in fact a tiny human, exuberantly free. Directly above her shines the largest star, the Dog Star, also called Sirius. The upper left sphere is gray (Chokmah) while the lower right sphere is black (Binah).

Our Transcendence and Return
The Freedom to Live
The Fool finally meets the Star, the gift of his own destiny. The water-bearer holds two pitchers — one pours forth the gift of the knowledge of good and evil (duality) leading to incarnation into the physical world and the cycle of birth, life, and death; the second bears the Tree of Life, offering sovereignty of the spirit and eternal life.
The Fool finally conjures the dream of the Restored World.
