The Wheel of Fortune

X - The Wheel of Fortune...

The Expander

Description of the Illustration:

The enormous planet Jupiter fills this card; super-imposed upon it is the medieval Wheel of Fortune. At the four corners of the Wheel we find the symbols for the four fixed sign of the Zodiac: the man (Aquarius), the bull (Taurus), the lion (Leo), and the eagle (Scorpio). Around the top half of the rim of the wheel are all the blessings, joys, and sensual pleasures of life, such as food and drink, riches and gambling, lovemaking and winning, and all forms of material merriment. Around the bottom half of the rim are the flip side of the results of immersing oneself in the physical universe - loss, hangovers, obesity, sickness, conflict, stress, and depression. At the hub, however, we find an image of an eternally fat, jolly Buddha. For no matter how much the Wheel turns, no matter how many ups and downs are experienced by those on the outer rim of the wheel, those few who find their still center of wisdom - stopping the endless cycle of avoiding and seeking - will discover true bliss. The upper left sphere is white (Kether), while the lower right sphere is gray (Chokmah).

Astrological Association: Jupiter

Element: Air, Masculine

The Epiphany

The Fool has an epiphany—a moment in time when everything in the cosmos seems to line up perfectly as he envisions the vast Wheel of Fortune.

The Wheel reveals the interconnected web of creation that is built around patterns and cycles as diversity and unity merge to produce the Grand Order of the Universe. The Fool begins to understand fate and destiny as well as the God within and beyond the rituals of humanity.

The Wheel of Fortune shows him the Life Force that is active in the One Substance, yet differentiated into the Four Elements. He glimpses the mixture that conceals the supreme essence at the root of all duality.
